Sonya Kliewer Artist

The love and passion for creating art has been a lifelong dream of mine. I am very thrilled to embark on this journey to learn and grow as an artist both personally and professionally to now have the chance to build a legacy within the art community and for my family.

I started doodling pictures out of books and magazines as a little girl just for fun, but the one memory that I have that sealed my love for painting was when my Aunt Peggy spent time with me and I painting my first paint by number of Jesus sitting on a rock talking with children (I still have that painting today). That was when I realized how much I truly enjoyed painting. It wasn’t till after I married and spent a few semesters at Okla City Community College taking art classes that I started to grow and learn the correct basics and variety of techniques.

After I became pregnant with my second child, I decided that being able to raise my family was very important to me so I turned my focus on raising our kids, and I am very thankful to a wonderful husband that allowed me to stay home for so many years to raise three wonderful and beautiful children.

Years later when they were grown, I was able to take a few art classes at the Edmond Institute of Fine Art until Covid 19 hit and classes were cancelled.  I have not gone back since, but I continue to work on my art here at home. I watch and study other artist through books, YouTube and Pateron and apply what I see and learn to my artwork.

I am excited and look forward to this new journey of continual growth both personally and professionally so that I can become the best artist that I can be…

for discovering oneself is all part of the fun, joy and excitement of a journey.
